Richard Lee, University of Toronto

Richard Lee is a Professor of Anthropology and Chair of the African Studies Programme at the University of Toronto. His books include Man the Hunter (1968), The !Kung San: Men, Women and Work in a Foraging Society (1979), Politics and History in Band Societies (1982) and The Dobe Ju/'hoansi (1993). His interests in Marxist theory, state formation and the Anthropological Left brought him into contact with Kathleen Gough with whom he remained friends for over 20 years.

Karen Brodkin Sacks, University of California, Los Angeles

Karen Brodkin Sacks was an undergraduate student of Kathleen Gough at Brandeis University. She now teaches Women's Studies, Anthropology and subversive ideas at UCLA. She writes about working-class women and grass-roots activism and aspires to be a videographer. Her books include Sisters and Wives, My Troubles Are Going to Have Trouble with Me and Caring by the Hour. Currently she is working on a collection of essays, What's a Marxist to Do?
