Back to Square One: A Re-Examination of Tsimshian Cross-Cousin Marriage
Abstract
Le but de cet article est d'évaluer les différentes explications du mariage Tsimshien. En particulier, on examine deux modèles opposés: les modèles matrilatéral et patrilatéral du mariage des cousins-croises. Étant donné que les modèles sont structuraux, la validité de l'utilisation des données empiriques devient une question de première importance. En plus des taux des différents types de mariage, on examine la terminologie de parente, les relations impliquées dans l'imposition des noms, la position des participants au potlatch, les régies d'héritage, la mythologie et les déclarations de préférence.
