Author Biography

Gerald D. Berrman, University of California, Berkeley

Gerald D. Berreman is Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research in the Himalayas has focussed on social inequality, environmental issues and related social movements. He served on the American Anthropological Association's Committee on Ethics, 1969-71, when it drafted the Principles of Professional Responsibility, and on the AAA Executive Board, 1971-74, when they were implemented. He is author of Hindus of the Himalayas, Caste and Other Inequities, The Politics of Truth, Social Inequality, and has written on social issues and anthropological ethics.
