Author Biography

Hy V. Luong, University of Toronto

Hy V. Luong is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Toronto. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He is the author of Discursive Practices and Linguistic Meanings: The Vietnamese System of Person Reference (1990) and Revolution in the Village: Tradition and Transformation in North Vietnam, 1925-1988 (1992). Having regularly conducted field research in Vietnam since 1987, he has also published on language, social structure and political economy in 20th-century Vietnam
